February 2010 Newsletter Dear Friends, As we begin 2010, wed like to extend our deepest appreciation to everyone who participated in the Paul Nabil Bustany Memorial Fund for Synovial Sarcoma Researchs Third Annual Benefit. We were delighted by the turnout. Over 70 runners and walkers took to the paths of Central Park on a brisk mid-October morning, with the weather holding out until the last person crossed the finish line. Afterward, over 75 people attended the benefit lunch to enjoy delicious Turkish food and great company. While we were gathering in New York, our friends across the pond were doing their own 5k run/walk in Londons Hyde Park. The satellite event was attended by friends and family from Reykjavik and beyond, making this years fundraiser a truly international effort. Thanks to your enthusiasm and hard work, we raised $45,000 as of January 1, 2010. The funds have been donated to support Dr. Marc Ladanyis research on Synovial sarcoma at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Ladanyi has devoted over twenty years of his life to researching Synovial sarcoma and is Chief of the Molecular Diagnostics Service at MSKCC. New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof wrote: Human beings are hard-wired to be altruistic. It is difficult for humans to be truly selfless, for generosity feels so good. Thank you for your generosity, for celebrating the spirit of giving, as well as the enduring spirit of Paul Nabil. Your ongoing support has never been more important, and never felt so good.
